RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) - I-77 was closed for several hours Saturday after a two cars collided, sending two people to the hospital and claiming one man's life.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says a Nissan Pick-up and Hyundai Elantra collided in the northbound lanes near the I-26 interchange.  The driver of the truck,  Herman Myers of Hopkins, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner Gary Watts says Myers wasn't wearing a seatbelt.   A passenger in the Nissan and the driver of the Hyundai were taken to the hospital.

The accident shut down the interstate between exit 2 and 5 for several hours.
