COLUMBIA (WACH)-- Thanks to citizens and businesses across the Midlands, families in need will receive the gift of hope this holiday season.

The 13th annual Share Your Holiday Food Drive, raised 1.3 million pounds of food Wednesday for Harvest Hope Food Bank.

The event has grown into the state’s largest food drive, thanks to your donations.

Residents, families, and businesses worked together to raise non-perishable food and cash donations. All day Wednesday, WACH FOX accepted donations at First Baptist Church in downtown Columbia and at the Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union in Lexington.

Harvest Hope CEO Denise Holland is grateful for the response, especially during these tough economic times.

“We’re doing almost 30 million pounds of food over the whole year, and that probably will grow between 32 to 35 million this year,” said Holland. “This food drive helps us meet all that demand.”

Again, a big thanks to everyone who donated and made Wednesday’s Share Your Holiday Food Drive a smashing success!
