COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Richland One officials cancelled classes for Eau Claire High School on Monday for the second time in less than a month.
Several law enforcement agencies including SLED, FBI, ATF, Richland County Sheriff's Department, and the city of Columbia are investigating.
Officials say the suspicious package was found by a custodial staff member outside the front of the school shortly before 6 am Monday.
Authorities used a bomb tech to guide a robot into the school to try to retrieve the package.
A Richland One spokesperson says after speaking with Eau Claire's principal, students were not rerouted to area schools as previously reported.
"South Carolina students have to be at school for 180 calendar days per year. In this instance we are only talking about Eau Claire High School. With the other incident and now today we'll have to look at how and when that time will be made up for Eau Claire high students," says Richland One's Karen York.
Just last month school officials had to cancel classes because another suspicious package was found on school grounds.
