WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH, AP) -- Police in West Columbia are trying to keep citizens safe from financial crimes.

Chief Dennis Tyndall is hosting a free seminar on Wednesday on how people can protect themselves from financial scams.

The seminar will be held in the West Columbia Courtroom at 200 N. 12th Street on Wednesday from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

A white collar investigator is covering topics including identity theft, credit card scams and bank fraud. There are also tips about protecting wallets during the holiday season and specifically protecting senior citizens from fraud.
