COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A former superintendent for schools in Mullins and Columbia is accused of underreporting his income by nearly $626,000.
The state Revenue Department says 61-year-old Nathaniel Miller of Columbia was arrested Monday and charged with five counts of tax evasion.
Miller worked for Richland 1 and Marion 2. He was indicted a year ago on charges he embezzled money from the two districts.
The agency accuses Miller of under-reporting his income from 2005 through 2009. A release says Miller reported a total income of $593,342, and paid about $4,000 in state income taxes, but he owed nearly $42,000.
Miller faces up to 25 years in prison and $50,000 in fines. He remained in the Richland County jail Monday afternoon awaiting a bond hearing. It was unclear if he has an attorney.
