WEST COLUMBIA (AP) -- A West Columbia man is charged with killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident.

West Columbia police said in a release Sunday that 29-year-old Diedreich Adam Jackson is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death and reckless homicide.

Lexington County Coroner Harry Harmon says 53-year-old Dennis Barfield of West Columbia was killed early Saturday as he walked on the sidewalk.

Jackson was at the Lexington County jail pending a bond hearing. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
