COLUMBIA (WACH)-- Columbia City Council has decided to put plans to sale Capital City Stadium on hold.
At Tuesday’s meeting, council members asked City Manager Steve Gantt to hold off on the sale until environmental and public concerns are addressed.
Councilman Daniel Rickenmann expects the sale will eventually happen. He says council plans to discuss the issue again on December 20th.
The developers planning on buying the stadium property on Assembly Street have ties to Walmart, but officials won’t confirm if the company plans to build a store at that location.
Nearly 100 "Occupy Columbia" protesters marched to City Hall Tuesday evening to fight the land deal.
They say big-box stores like Walmart will hurt small businesses in the city.
