COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Eau Claire High School classes have been canceled today.

Columbia Police are investigating a suspicious package found on the front door of the school containing loose wires.

Authorities say there was also a note nearby.

A Hazmat team has disrupted the device and it has been removed from the building, there is no additional information as to what was inside.

Officials tell WACH Fox News they recieved a call at approximatley 6:30 a.m about the package.

Some employees were already in the school when investigators recieved the call, but have been evacuated. No students were present at that time.

Richland One School District says about 100 Eau Claire students who later arrived on campus were transported to Alcorn and Heyward Gibbes middle schools. Those students will be served lunch and taken home by bus around noon.

Parents of these Eau Claire students who would like to pick up their children at Gibbes or Alcorn may do so with the proper identification.

The State Law Enforecemt Division, Richland County Sheriff's deputies, Columbia Police, and Columbia Firefighters are on the scene.

According to Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins, the 4800 block of Monticello Road is closed until further notice.
