COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Around 3,000 people showed up Sunday afternoon to participate in the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes, hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Palmetto Chapter.

Sunday's walk raised more than $238,000 for the organization.

Teams lined up to begin the walk outside the Colonial Life Arena and looped through downtown Columbia. There were families, students, and even pets crossing the finish line. At the end of the walk, participants were cheered on by other supporters and even greeted with bottles of water from girl-scouts.

According to the JDRF website, each year 15,000 adults and 15,000 children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
