RICHLAND (WACH) -- Richland County deputies are asking for the community’s help identifying a possible witness.
According to investigators, a person was caught on surveillance video entering the Shell Gas Station at 2201 Bush River Road, Tuesday, October 4, at about 4:38 a.m. Authorities say, at about this same time, a suspect was using a stolen credit card at the outside gas pumps. The credit card was taken from a victim’s car, which was one in a string of car break-ins that have occurred in the Chapin area.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department would like to question the person seen entering the store. Deputies say he may have important information about the person using the stolen card.
Deputies say the car break-ins happened between September 16 and October 21, in the Forty Love Point, Foxport and Lakeport communities.
Sheriff Leon Lott says the suspect is forcing their way into the cars and stealing guns, laptop computers and I-pads. Lott adds that the suspect appears to be a white male approximately 6 feet tall and of slender build. The incidents are occurring between 2 - 5:30 a.m. One of the incidents was captured on video.
Investigators ask that anyone with information on the identity of the witness in the credit incident to call Crimestoppers at 1(888) CRIME-SC.
