COLUMBIA (WACH) -- It’s a special presentation for a Richland County deputy who’s being fighting for his life.

Deputy Mark Ryan who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer a few months ago has been back on the job for less than a month now.

Wednesday the Richland County Sheriffs Foundation giving Deputy Ryan a check for $15,000.

The money going to help with his medical bills and expenses accrued while he was dealing with cancer.

Deputy Ryan says he's so grateful for the men and women in uniform who didn't give up on him.

“Basically as a single parent the bills are tight to begin with and then when you're laid up and can’t work, bills are even tighter. It’s a comfort to know that basically the bills are going to get paid and that they've been there to help out,” says Deputy Mark Ryan.

Just this past summer several fundraisers were held to help Deputy Ryan.
