COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Supreme Court has suspended the license of a Conway attorney for up to 90 days and ordered him to take anger management classes after he slapped a defendant during a deposition.
The court said Monday that Richard M. Lovelace Jr. agreed to the punishment with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.
The order from the court says Lovelace got angry with the defendant in April 2008 when he thought the defendant was not speaking respectfully. Lovelace pointed his finger at the defendant, who stood up and told Lovelace to stop pointing. Lovelace then slapped the man in the face.
The order says Lovelace pleaded no contest to simple assault and was fined, and that he reported the incident to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel on his own.
