COLUMBIA (WACH) — With unemployment in South Carolina over 11 percent and Richland County only a slightly lower 10.3 percent, a honed resume,  computer skills, and interview techniques are more important than ever as more and more people vie for fewer jobs.

To help citizens who may not have any interview experience, or those who have not interviewed for many years but find themselves on the job hunt due to the economy, the Richland County Public Library offers a job center.

Library Executive Director Melanie Huggins points out that with nearly 2,000 unemployment claims filed each month in Richland County, job seeking are crucial.

The Richland Public Library Job Center is free to the public, regardless of where you live, and offers assistance with resume creation, interview skills, and even help filling out online applications.

According to Huggins, the Job Center was funded by a grant from the Knight Foundation, and in addition to basic skills, offers classes, training and support for not only displaced workers, but help for entrepreneurs.

The Job Center is open to the public, there is no cost, and you do not have to be a member of the library to use the services.  For more information, you can logon to the Richland County Public Libraries Job Center website.
