MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man is dead and another in police custody after a fatal stabbing outside the Super Walmart at the Market at Oakland Shopping Center on Highway 17.

Officials have identified the deceased stabbing victim as 20-year-old David Moultrie of Mount Pleasant. Investigators say Moultrie died at the scene after an altercation outside the entrance near the store's bakery and McDonald's.

"He proceeded back inside the inner doors of Walmart where he collapsed in the lobby due to his wounds," said Captain Stan Gragg with the Mount Pleasant Police Department.  "As you can imagine, Walmart was extremely busy at that time."

Police have taken 19-year-old Darius Green of Awendaw into custody -- but so far, he has not been charged.

Witnesses inside the Walmart reported hearing possible gunshots inside the store, but police have confirmed there were no gunshots fired.

What was supposed to be a regular shopping day stunned many customers.

"It's something totally unexpected here," said shopper Lynn Franchak.

Police cleared employees and customers from the parking lot and inside the store after the incident.

"We ran out through the garden center and told everyone to get out of the store," Franchak said.

Officials with the Charleston County Coroner's Office said they believe Moultrie was an employee of the store.

An autopsy is scheduled on Moultrie sometime Thursday.  He was a 2010 graduate of Wando High School.
