KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Kershaw County deputies have a arrested a man years after they say he sexually assaulted a little girl.
Ronald Christmas, 41, of Elgin is charged with the sexual assault of a girl when she was between 5 and 8 years old.
The alleged victim is now 12. Investigators say she recently told her mother about what happened. Officials say the girl's mother than contacted the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department.
"It is especially troubling when a little kid is sexually assaulted by a grownup, who they should be able to trust," said Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews. "I am hoping his bond will be set high enough so he does not get out of jail prior to his trial."
Matthews says he expects more charges to be filed against Christmas as the investigation continues.
Christmas is currently being held in the Kershaw County Detention Center. He has a bond hearing set for the week of October 17.
