LEXINGTON (WACH) -- Senior citizens in Lexington County took their first steps into a newly renovated leisure center Monday.
The new expanded center on Park Street will give seniors a better environment to fellowship. Arts and crafts rooms have been added along with a brand new kitchen and dinning area.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday morning outside of the center.
Senator Jake Knotts of Lexington and Town Mayor Randy Halfacre gave remarks. Halfacre also presented a proclamation to the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission. Seniors in the community say they are happy to have a bigger place to come together and have a little fun.
"It's something to do in between things," said Lexington senior Sharon Caldwell, "you know during the day its something to do besides sitting home and everything. It's enough to get you out where you can go shopping and everything and so we have a good time."
The new senior center located at 108 Park Street will host an open house for the entire community Friday, September 30, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
