South Carolina Athletic Director Eric Hyman
 / USC
COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A report out of North Carolina says University of South Carolina Athletic Director Eric Hyman is a primary candidate for the open AD position at UNC Chapel Hill.
WRAL-TV in Raliegh is reporting the committee charged with finding a replacement for outgoing University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill athletic director Dick Baddour is heavily focused on Hyman.
WRAL says sources in both Columbia and Chapel Hill tell reporters that there is a mutual interest following recent phone conversations between Hyman and UNC officials.
The UNC committee has been shortening the list of potential candidates after Baddour asked them to begin looking for his replacement in July.
"Our history of great academics and athletics, that’s speaking for itself and the candidate pool is literally a who’s who of the athletic director community in the United States," a search committee member told WRAL reporters Tuesday.
Hyman graduated from UNC and also played football for the school. He has been with USC since 2005 after working for Texas Christian University.
Hyman's current contract ends in 2015.
