FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WACH) -- Friday morning, family members, friends and fellow soldiers commemorated the day the United States changed in an instant.
A ceremony held at Fort Jackson to honor the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
"We're here today to commemorate the almost three thousand men women and children lost in the attacks of September 11th," said Major General James Milano.
Military members and civilians came together Friday at Fort Jackson to honor and remember the one hour and 44 minutes that changed America.
"That day was punctuated by proud shock and loss and is clearly etched in our memories," said Milano "we can all remember what we were doing that day when the attacks occurred."
"I was in union South Carolina," said Inspector Gino Seta "I felt that we were under attack, there's no way two planes could be an accident."
Inspector Seta has served his country for fourteen years and says he knows the everyday risk goes beyond the uniform.
"The soldiers volunteer, but the families don't. It's just as difficult on the families as it is on the soldiers," said Seta.
The soldiers, however, continue to answer the call.
"They know the dangers involved" said Milano "but they're very proud to be apart of their army and they're very proud of America and they want to keep America strong and keep America great."
What was designed to replace freedom with fear and drive a nation apart, instead bringing an army together.
Milano said, "Together as one great team we're keeping America safe and we're very proud of that"
