LEXINGTON (WACH, AP) -- Lexington County deputies say a teen took 17 guns from the home of a man he knew during a burglary earlier this month.
Sheriff James Metts says 19-year-old Richard Olin Jr. was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree burglary and grand larceny of the Robin Forest Drive home.
Investigators say Olin broke into the man's West Columbia home Aug. 13 and took the guns along with three diamond rings and other jewelry worth a total of over $30,000.
Deputies say Olin's mother did work for the man, and Olin knew he would be out of town on a deep-sea fishing trip.
Metts said the items that the homeowner reported the following items as stolen:
- One .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun
- One 7.65-mm pistol
- One 12-gauge Browning over/under trap shotgun with an adjustable stock
- Two Remington 12-gauge shotguns
- One Remington 20-gauge shotgun
- One Remington 410 shotgun
- Two Winchester .22-caliber rifles
- One Colt .22-caliber rifle
- One Browning 410 over/under shotgun
- One Glock 9-mm handgun
- One Glock .40-caliber handgun
- One Smith & Wesson .357-caliber handgun
- One Ruger .357-caliber handgun
- Three diamond rings worth a total of $15,400
- One gold wedding band worth $200
- One gold watch with diamonds worth $800
The sheriff says Olin sold at least three of the guns, and four other firearms have not been found.
