COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The attorney general's office is reviewing allegations against the interim director of South Carolina's public safety agency.

Multiple media outlets reported Wednesday that a Beaufort woman named Ali Rowell filed a complaint earlier this month against Col. Kenny Lancaster with the agency's internal affairs office. Rowell alleges in a sworn statement that she and Lancaster began an affair in 1992 while he was assigned to Beaufort County. She claims the married man's retaliatory tactics caused her husband to be fired in 2008.

Public safety spokesman Sid Gaulden called the claims unproven assertions and declined comment.

State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel sent the complaint to the attorney general. A spokesman for that office confirmed Wednesday it was reviewing a complaint against Lancaster but did not specify the subject.
