COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Officials in Columbia say they've arrested the suspect accused of assaulting and robbing a hotel clerk at gunpoint.

Officers say 21-year-old Trayon Christopher Watkins Bannister pointed a gun at a female victim at the Town Place Suites Marriot on East Exchange Boulevard and took an undisclosed amount of money Monday night just before midnight.

Investigators also say he attacked the woman after she handed over the cash from the register.

Bannister was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Waffle House on Piney Grove Road.  He is charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, assault and battery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

DNA evidence left at the scene led police to identify Bannister as the suspect.
