HARBISON (WACH) -- Officials have a man in custody who they say barricaded himself in a hotel room in Harbison.

The Columbia Police Department and SWAT team responded to the Hampton Inn on Woodcross Drive early Tuesday afternoon.

Officers say the man called 911 and told operators he had a gun and refused to come out of his second floor room.  He did not show any signs of violence and no injuries were reported.

Police say the suspect has been involuntarily checked-in to the hospital after police raise concerns about his mental health.

"Luckily, we did talk him into peacefully ending the situation to voluntarily leaving this hotel room, so we're glad he is now in good hands and will hopefully get things straightened out for himself," CPD spokesperson Jennifer Timmons says.

Officials say the 36-year-old man was checked in to the hotel under a fake name.  No charges are expected to be filed.

Employees and guests on the second floor were evacuated but have since been allowed to return.
