Employers, human resources professionals and business owners have a chance to learn about workplace safety issues at a free seminar aimed at helping keep South Carolina businesses stay in business and keep their employees safe at work.
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Falls are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States, accounting for approximately 8.6 million visits to the emergency room.
Many of those mishaps can happen in the workplace leading to injury and sometimes costly lawsuits. In this economic climate, the last thing a business needs is to worry about trying to cover potentially costly and time consuming litigation that could happen when an employee gets hurt on the job.
However, there are steps business owners can take to keep employees safe and avoid lawsuits.
"There are insurance coverage issues they need to take care of before anything ever happens to help prevent losses and expenses to their businesses," said attorney Pete Dworjanyn of the Collins and Lacy law firm. "It applies to any business that might have to deal with an injury."
And that means any business. Employers, human resources professionals and business owners have a chance to learn about these key issues at a free seminar aimed at helping keep South Carolina businesses stay in business and keep their employees safe at work.
The half-day seminar will cover the following topics:
- Workers' compensation prevention measures
- Common mistakes to avoid once a claim occurs
- Common insurance coverage issues that can arise during a workers' compensation claim
- Employment law concerns to watch out for while handling a workers' compensation claim
- Lessons to learn after a claim is complete
The seminar is Tuesday, August 9, 8am - 12 pm, at the South Carolina National Safety Council's office in Irmo. For more information call 803-732-6778 or click here.
