COLUMBIA (WACH)—This years National Night Out is August 2 in communities all over the Midlands, and to kick off this annual event, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department is hosting a Guardians of the Knight 5K run and community day on Saturday at the Village At Sandhill.
According to K-9 Deputy Warren Cavanah, the race will begin at 7:30 am in front of the Plex and end at the fountain, where the community day will be held. The 5K walk/run is sanctioned, and monitored by Strictly Running.
Lt. Rafael Gonzolez says that starting at 9:00, the community will have the opportunity learn more about the Sheriff’s Department, and many of the departments and equipment will be on display. Gonzolez says that there will be K-9 demonstrations, a helicopter show, food, crime prevention tips and more.
Entry for the Guardians Of The Night 5K is $30.00, and proceeds benefit the Richland County Sheriff’s Department K-9 team, and the community day is free.
