COLUMBIA (WACH) – On Monday, Mr. Friendly’s New Southern Café and sister restaurant, Cellar on Greene, will host a charity night in honor of a teen who was nearly beaten to death in Five Points last month.
According to authorities, 18-year old Carter Strange nearly died when a group of teens attacked him. After the attack, Strange required brain and facial reconstructive surgeries.
The Charity event, “Love for Carter Strange,” is Monday night from 5pm - 7pm on Greene Street.
Tents will be set up outside in the parking lot between the two restaurants, where beer, wine and light refreshments will be sold.
All of the proceeds will go to the Strange family to help pay for Carter’s mounting medical bills.
On Tuesday, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. – 5p.m. at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex on 521 Gibson Road.
On Thursday, “Richland 101 for Kids,” will be held at the Dutch Square Center on 4211 Bush River Road.
The one-day program will feature animal care, a fire truck and ambulance, the nine-foot deputy and Richland County’s bug man.

On Saturday, Richland County will celebrate its third annual “National Night Out.” Ricland County sheriff Leon Lott is encouraging the community to participate in the 2011 Kick-Off for National Night Out on Saturday July 30th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Village at Sandhill (at the Fountain in the Town Center Commons).
The event is meant to celebrate taking crime off the streets and to help kick-start National Night Out Against Crime, Tuesday August 2, 2011.
Sheriff Lott says his goal is to have 100% participation from all neighborhoods in Richland County on National Night Out, and have a crime watch in every neighborhood and business community.
