AIKEN (AP) -- An Aiken man has been charged with murder after authorities say he strangled a 31-year-old woman.
Authorities say 30-year-old James Conway Gray was arrested early Saturday morning.
Sheriff's Capt. Troy Elwell says Gray and 31-year-old Helen Magee got into a fight at her house. Elwell says the fight turned physical, and Gray strangled Magee.
Coroner Tim Carlton says Magee died of asphyxiation. Elwell says two children younger than 10 witnessed the fight. One of them called 911, saying their mother was hurt.
Deputies found Magee unresponsive. Authorities picked up Gray nearby, and he told them he killed Magee.
Gray was being held Sunday at the Aiken County jail. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
