LAKE MURRAY (WACH) -- A boating accident on Lake Murray claimed two lives over the weekend.

According to authorities, 53-year-old Timothy Jones and 45-year-old Kimberly Bailey, both of Leesville, left a friend’s house headed toward Chapin around 10:30 p.m. Friday in a 17-foot Ranger bass boat.

The Lexington County Coroner says Jones failed to see a dock which extended approximately 60 feet from land and struck it head-on.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bailey was ejected from the boat upon impact.  Her body was located at 8:00 a.m. Saturday near the shoreline of Billy Dreher Island.

Authorities say both Jones and Bailey died from head injuries.

The accident remains under investigation and it may take some time ti figure out exactly what happened, according to Lieutenant Robert McCullough with the DNR.

"We had a victim that was almost a mile and a half from where the accident happened because she had drifted across the lake," McCullough says.

Officials say alcohol played a role in the incident.
