COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- It's time to place orders for seedlings from the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

The commission says its nursery grows 33 varieties of trees including pines, hardwoods and different species for Christmas trees. This year, the Taylor Nursery is growing almost 2 million longleaf seedlings.

Foresters recommend planting the seedlings in fall and early winter for the best survival.

With a continued demand for pulpwood, the commission says there is always money to be made for landowners who want to plant and harvest forests. In all, the commission says South Carolina has more than 13 million acres of forest land, or about 68 percent of the state's total land area.
