Columbia (WACH)—The community continues to rally around and support Carter Strange, the 18 year old Dreher High School who was beaten by 4 teenagers on June 20th in Five Points.

The attack left strange with a blot clot that required emergency surgery to save his life.  There were 8 suspects arrested in connection to the beating, 7 of which were under 18 years old, which led the City of Columbia to pass an emergency juvenile curfew, making it illegal for anyone under the age of 17 to be in Five Points between 11pm and 6 am.

In efforts to help the Strange Family with the medical bills, several businesses in Five Points, and the Five Points Association are coming together to raise money.  On Monday July 25th, Mr. Friendly’s New Southern Café and the Cellar on Green, both owned by Ricky Mollohan, are holding a charity event between the two restaurants, selling beer, wine, and light snacks.

“We are not only hosting this event to help the Strange family with medical bills, but to also bring awareness to the growing criminal activity in the Five Points area.  As a smaller community within Columbia, we have to come together now,” said Mollohan.  He also said that 100% of the proceeds from the event will go to the family.

The Five Points Rotary will also be at the event, selling prints of Five Points for a $10 donation which will also go directly to Carter Strange and his family.  The prints, which are an abstract rendition of the iconic fountain are also available at eight other Five Points locations.
