CALHOUN COUNTY (WACH) -- A Midlands sheriff has been named Sheriff of the Year by the South Carolina Sheriff's Association.
Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers was given the annual award last week in Hilton Head at the association's conference.
Summers was selected by a private panel making it the first time a sheriff from the county has won that statewide title.
“We have worked very hard over the past several years to make the Sheriff’s Office a professional and progressive agency that can meet the needs of our citizens”, Sheriff Summers said. “This recognition has been a very humbling experience”.
Summers was nominated by Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
State Rep. Harry Ott recognized Summers at the awards banquet with a signed resolution from the State House.
