COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A Midlands animal shelter is looking for a home for a pit bull that they say was used to train fighting dogs.

Pets Inc. in West Columbia says the adult male dog, they've named Cowboy, was brought to them with bites and broken or filed teeth.

Volunteers think the pit bull was used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring in Swansea.  Find out more about Cowboy by clicking here.

Officials at Pets Inc. say it's another pit bull horror story out of Swansea and believe a lot of dog fighting training happens there.

"He's healing very well, I think he's so emotionally balanced it's helped him physically," said Pets Inc. Vice President Jane Brundage.  "He doesn't seem to be too traumatized by all of this emotionally."

The HSPCA has a reward of $5,000 for anyone with information that leads to a conviction for dog fighting.

If you're interested in adopting this dog or helping out, visit the Pets Inc. website for more information.
