COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- After winning two consecutive national titles, the USC baseball team was honored with back-to-back festivities this week.

On Friday, thousands of people took a break from their usual routines to congratulate the Gamecocks which conquered the unusual.

No red carpet was needed for their entrance as Main Street in Columbia was lined with fans dressed in garnet.

The city estimated about 40,000 people came to last year's parade, after Carolina made history in Omaha by bringing home the university’s first national title.

“These young men exude everything that we here in the City of Columbia are proud of,” says Mayor Steve Benjamin.

A dedication and presentation was made to Coach Ray Tanner and his team.

“Two years, back-to-back, are you serious?” yelled third baseman Adrian Morales to the crowd gathered at the State House.

“Thank you very much everybody,” added Coach Tanner.  “This must be heaven.”

The USC baseball team is not only number one in the nation, but in the hearts of thousands of loyal fans.

The parade continued several days of celebrations after Tuesday night's historic win at the Men's Baseball College World Series.  Around 12,000 people packed Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday evening to welcome back the Gamecocks.
