COLUMBIA (WACH) -- On the first night of Columbia's emergency teen curfew in the Five Points area, officials are reporting good news.
Despite a crowd of revelers after the Gamecock's Game 2 victory in the College World Series Finals, Columbia police observed no curfew violations.
In fact, the crowd was fairly tame with no major incidents reported and only one arrest for disorderly conduct according to officials.
Columbia City Council voted unanimously Tuesday morning to enforce the new curfew which is in effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for those 16 and younger and apply to Five Points, Maxcy Gregg Park, and Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Click here for a detailed map.
The ordinance will expire in 65 days and Wednesday was the first day it was enforced. Read the full emergency ordinance by clicking here.
The new law stems from an incident last week when a teenager was attacked by several teens in a parking lot in the 1900 block of Blossom Street Monday June 20.
Officials say Carter Strange was running through Five Points to get home for his curfew when 19-year-old Tyheem Henrey and six teens ranging in age from 13-16 attacked him and took his cell phone. Strange was left with severe injuries requiring emergency brain surgery.
