COLUMBIA (WACH) -- An approaching cold front sparked off severe thunderstorms across the Midlands Thursday afternoon and evening.
Numerous storms are firing off in Georgia and will continue to push into the area through Midnight. Thanks to earlier storms, it's expected that future storms will be weaker than the ones earlier this afternoon.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been canceled by the National Weather Service. Severe storms are expected to continue along the coast.
The primary threats with these storms will be lightning, damaging winds over 60 mph and large hail.
The National Weather Service is reporting trees being down along I-26 near mile marker 116.
"It's very important to pay attention to watches and warnings as they are issued," says SkyWACH. "Remember that damaging wind, hail and lightning can be deadly."
The first storms fired off just after 2pm in Aiken and Richland Counties. The National Weather Service is issuing warnings in accordance with storms reaching severe limits.
