CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina State Ports Authority is projecting an almost 7 percent increase in container volume and plans to invest almost $82 million in capital projects during the new fiscal year starting July 1.

The authority board approved its new budget Tuesday in Charleston.

Most of the money will be spent on terminal infrastructure improvements and the authority's new cruise terminal in downtown Charleston. The authority also plans to spend nearly $17 million on consolidating information systems that are used to track shipments.

Container volume in Charleston increased more than 9 percent from last July through May.
