COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Self-proclaimed 'presidential candidate' Robert Haines failed to appear at a scheduled court hearing Friday morning on disorderly conduct charges.
Despite Haines' absence, a Columbia judge found him guilty on charges of disorderly conduct and blocking a sidewalk. Haines must pay a $200 fine and court fees.
Last month, Haines was arrested and released on bond from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center a day after being arrested several blocks from the State House. Haines, who was wearing a purple bathrobe-style dress and cowboy hat at the time of his arrest, has drawn attention around the Midlands for a series of bizarre public stunts including online videos, karaoke sessions with college students in Columbia's Five Points and walking the streets of Columbia dressed in a Confederate soldier's uniform.
A Facebook page exists containing pictures of Haines wearing a campaign shirt alongside college-aged students
In May, the Department of Public Safety barred Haines from entering the State House or its grounds for "impeding state government and the general public safety" after he interrupted House lawmakers by yelling at them from the gallery.
