COLUMBIA (WACH) - Dan Stilwell says it happened almost immediately.
The businessman says as soon as the Gamecocks punched their ticket to Omaha, he saw an increase in sales.
“Soon as that last out was made and we put the stuff up on the website, people started putting in orders,” said Stilwell.
Stilwell owns Gamecock Stop in Columbia. He says people were ordering College World Series shirts and anything with a Gamecock baseball logo on it.
Stilwell says the summer can be rough on his business but the success of the baseball team helps him make it through.
“We’re lucky that we can kind of count on a boost in the summer from Gamecock baseball,” said Stilwell.
The same is true for Columbia travel agent Rocky Douglas.
“People don’t realize with travel agents that a lot of times in summertime our business is a little bit slower because people already planned their vacations. So this is just one of those added little bonuses,” said Douglas.
Douglas says he spent a majority of his Monday booking trips to Omaha.
He said many fans are choosing to plan for the trip now, rather than later.
“The closer you wait the worse availability is going to be and of course your airfares are going to go up,” said Douglas.
And while both Douglas and Stilwell stay busy enjoying the recent boost of business, they say they are anticipating even more business if the Gamecocks continue their winning ways.
