FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) -- The American Legion Post 1 in Florence is helping organize a four-day rally to give homeless military veterans a chance to put their lives back on track.
Ken Curran of the American Legion says the event is free and open to any of the estimated 200 to 300 homeless veterans living in the northeastern portion of South Carolina.
Curran says the program runs Wednesday through Saturday. It offers tent housing, showers, clean clothes, haircuts, medical counseling and legal assistance. The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority is offering free bus rides to the event.
Officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration and the state Department of Employment and Workforce are helping to assist the veterans.
