South Carolina legislators are meeting to draw election district lines that would have some House members running against each other next year.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina legislators are meeting to draw election district lines that would have some House members running against each other next year.
Eight House members are expected to make their case that they shouldn't have to run against each other to keep their seats when the Judiciary Committee meets Monday.
The panel also will work on a plan for the location of a seventh U.S. House seat that Republicans want to put on the coast.
Election district lines must be redrawn every ten years after the U.S. Census shows how the population has shifted.
The current proposal pits four Democrats against each other for existing seats and four Republicans in the same situation. The affected Republican districts include that of Piedmont Rep. Dan Cooper, who is not running for re-election.
