ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Federal and county prosecutors in South Carolina are being recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice for their efforts to fight drugs.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says he and Orangeburg Solicitor David Pascoe joined Deputy Attorney General James Cole in Washington Tuesday to discuss their Drug Endangered Child Community Response Team.
The task force of federal, state and local law enforcement also works with educators and ministers to stop drug abuse, trafficking and addiction.
Nettles says children who are born into households where the parents use, make or distribute illicit drugs are nearly 60 percent more likely to be arrested than children who don't live in homes with drugs.
Nettles and Pascoe held their first meeting Friday in Orangeburg.
