Fort Jackson holds Memorial Day service to honor the fallen

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WACH, AP) -- Fort Jackson held a special Memorial Day ceremony to honor the men and women who have fallen in military service on behalf of their nation.

The wreath was laid Monday at the statue of Andrew Jackson near the installation's main gate.

A color guard presented the American flag and the post's military colors. Soldiers also appeared in vintage uniforms with a 21-gun salute.

Fort Jackson's commander, Maj. Gen. James Milano spoke and members of the Society of Military Widows and members of the Gold Star Wives organizations were being invited as special guests.
