COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Seventy-two high school seniors in South Carolina are graduating without missing a single day of class in 12 years.
State schools chief Mick Zais said Thursday it is an extraordinary accomplishment to attend school for more than 2,000 consecutive days. About 44,000 students statewide are receiving their diplomas this school year.
The perfect attendance honorees include fraternal twins Alexis and Asante Dawkins, who will graduate Friday from Boiling Springs High School in Spartanburg 2. They are the fourth set of twins since 2005 to graduate with perfect attendance.
For the second consecutive year, Dorman High in Spartanburg 6 had the most students in a single school with perfect attendance. This year six seniors never missed a day.
The education agency has recognized students with perfect attendance since 1979.
