COLUMBIA (WACH)--Local interior designer Gretchen Opgenorth eats, sleeps, and breathes design.

"Design in in my blood," says Opgenorth "I have an artist as a mother and nd engineer as my father."

The up and coming interior designer has used her home and living space as her canvas.

"I found the ugliest house on the street and I wanted a house that we could renovate,  which we did and I designed and renovated, said Opgenorth."

Like any artist Opgenorth says her masterpiece started with an inspiration, "for me it was a painting." Opgenorth can stand in her kitchen and see her color scheme come together from room to room.

While her home looks like a page from a magazine, Opgenorth says it didn't cost an arm and leg to make her space more vibrant.

"You can find furniture at thrift stores and as long as it has good bone," says Opgenorth "it doesn't take a lot of money.  It takes a little bit of ingenuity and everybody can have a home that they're proud of."

Gretchen's home is something to be proud of and recognized.   She recently recieved a call from the producers of the Nate Berkus show who were impressed by her online interior design blog.

"I was in Sherwainn Williams, picking out a paint color and I think I danced, I think I did a jigg."

Opgenorth will be featured on the show Thursday during the monthly "House Proud" segment and although its too soon to tell she may have made her mark for generations to come.

"My little girl has already said things to me like when she's doing her little doll house, you know mommy, I'm designing my house. That's where you come home to...that's where you should feel the most comfortable, said Opgenorth.
