FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) -- Two partners in a pair of failed condominium projects at North Myrtle Beach have been sentenced to federal prison for a scam that cost investors millions of dollars.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that Jeff Shoup was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on Tuesday and ordered to pay more than $5 million in restitution.

Tommy Hix was sentenced to more than three years in prison and ordered to pay $5 million in restitution.

The men were partners in T&J Development of North Myrtle Beach and pleaded guilty last year to one felony charge each of conspiracy to commit mail or wire fraud.

Prosecutors say the men stole deposits that buyers had placed on condo units. Neither condo was built nor was the money returned.
