Conductor's Attorney Criticizes Mini-Train Investigation

GREENVILLE (WACH, WHNS) -- An attorney for the man who was driving a miniature train when it crashed and killed a 6-year-old boy said the investigation that blamed his client is flawed.

The Spartanburg County coroner's office blamed excessive speed for the crash.

The train's speed was determined by using a video shot by a young passenger on the train.

Attorney Grant Varner said on Monday that a county agency should never have been allowed to investigate the accident that happened at one of its parks.

Varner also said his client, Matt Conrad, was never told a maximum speed for the ride and that a device that would prevent the train from going over a certain speed was never set.
