COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Cinco de Mayo celebrations took place across the U.S. on Thursday.  In Columbia, some people were eating and toasting in honor of Cinco de Meow-o.

This is the second year Pawmetto Lifeline, a non-profit organization which rescues hundreds of cats and kittens, hosted the event to raise money.

On Thursday, the party was held at Thirsty Fellow Pizzeria and Pub.   The business donated 10 percent of all food and drink sales during Cinco de Meow-o to Pawmetto Lifeline.

“Everyone has fun with name Cinco De Meow-o,” says Natasha Ashberger.  “It really gives a chance for our cat lovers to come out and celebrate their true passion.”

Organizers add the event was a tasty way to help the Midlands’ homeless animals.
