LEXINGTON COUNTY (WACH) -- While some folks are celebrating the addition of 4,000 jobs to the state by retail giant Wal-Mart, others are blasting the move.
"Under the Wal-Mart plan they're going to generate 4,000 jobs as a result of creating 300 full time jobs. The Amazon deal would have created 1200 full time jobs, said Scott Adams.
Adams is past president of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. He was a supporter of the deal that would have brought online retailer Amazon.com to West Columbia.
The legislature killed the deal last week after critics claimed it was brokered behind closed doors.
"At a time when people said they didn't know about the Amazon deal, they obviously didn't know about the Wal-Mart deal either," adds Adams.
John Petta sees it differently. Petta was supposed to be the plant manager at Amazon's new facility.
"Why can't we have a good company like Wal-Mart expand in our area along with Amazon."
