COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Columbia police are helping put on a fitness competition to benefit the South Carolina Special Olympics.
Chief Randy Scott says the "Battle for the Cause" is taking place Saturday at the Drew Wellness Center in Columbia.
Police officers, fire, EMS and military personnel are competing at the event that is also being organized by Carolina Crossfit.
Contests include a strongman competition, in which athletes complete three attempts each for a maximum weight of the deadlift and shoulder press. Another contest also involves jump rope, kettle bell swings and a sprint to the finish line.
