BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) -- Bluffton has been selected to take part in a federal program to help map growth so that natural areas are protected.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports Bluffton is one of 32 communities nationwide selected for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program.

EPA officials will be in town next month to attend a planning workshop. The workshop will help map where development should go so that sensitive natural areas are protected.

Bluffton was selected from among 350 applicants nationwide.
