COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Spring Valley High School girls' basketball team finished number 22 nationally for the 2010-11 season. They were honored for that achievement Thursday.

The announcement was made by MaxPreps, a company that ranks more than 20,000 high school girls' varsity basketball teams.

Spring Valley finished 29-0 for its first undefeated season to capture the South Carolina AAAA state championship.

Head basketball coach Anne Long said, "When you can receive a state championship that's a great honor but when you can take it a step further and receive national recognition it says so much for the school the community and last but not least the players and my coaching staff it's a culmination of all the hard work and what we emphasize to be successful out there."

South Carolina Lieutenant Colonel Clarence Bowser presented Coach Long and the team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy at a Fine Arts Assembly Thursday.
